I enjoyed Doug's video quite a lot, what a great idea. It is a wonderful tool for those of us who only have one horse and limited in the saddle jumping time to be able to "practice" training our eyes. It was awesome to see correct distances. I think it gave a good sense of the horse's rhythm and strides as if I was riding. I found it easy to count the strides in the rider perspective clips and feel if the jump was going to be accurate or not. I hope Doug continues to develop a series of these types of videos. It would be wonderful to have a video that addressed a range of jumping questions from easiest to most difficult in each level of eventing such as a Novice specific video. I think that expanding on specific exercises over schooling jumps for those of us without access to much xcountry practice would be very helpful. I really loved the whole course rides and would pay to see more whole xcountry courses from different venues at my level. The ladies in my riding group are very interested in seeing it. Even though they are not eventers, we all need to improve disciplining our eyes for accurate jumping. - Kathy Hall

The Rider's Eye is an innovative and refreshing approach to solving the age old problem of looking down. Who hasn't been in a lesson and been told," Don't look down" or " Look ahead to your next obstacle"? The helmet cam really drives home how crucial eye and head position are. Great for anyone who wants to improve their riding! - Olivia Goossen

Hit Air - SV-2, LV and MLV Air Vests

Hi Doug,

I just wanted to thank you for making the Hit Air vests available. You may recall selling one to my 15 year old, Christy.  Two weeks ago she was competing at Training level at Bucks County Horse Park. She had been having a lovely round as she approached the produce stand, a fence she and Whiskey have happily jumped many times. Something went wrong with the take off;perhaps it was a slip of the hind feet on the ground that was like concrete. Whiskey didn't get elevation and landed on the fence. His front feet were over the fence and his back feet were on the steps. Christy went flying. The vest inflated. She had bruised forearms, but was otherwise fine from the fall. Unfortunately, she tried to get to her feet right in front of the fence, right by Whiskey's front legs. He tried to get his feet on a solid surface (the top step) just as Christy was getting up. He struck her very hard on the back of the neck. She had a mark where she was hit and was sore for a few days, but it could have been so much worse. The vest clearly shows a mark where Whiskey's hoof struck. The vest  absorbed  most of the impact and protected Christy.

Thank you, again.

Janice

Hit Air was the first company to produce air vests for the motorcycle industry. They have taken this same technology and produced the best equestrian vest on the market today. In my opinion it is far better than the competitors due to the fact that it is discrete when not inflated. Upon activation, it quickly deploys and surrounds your body with a cushion of air. This vest incorporates Hit-air’s new super high speed airbag deployment system. The system deploys the airbag in 120 msec (0.12 sec)! By comparison the human eye blink rate is 300 to 400 msec or 0.3 seconds.

Spare Canisters (When ordering spare canisters, shipping via UPS ground is required. Transporters categorize canisters as hazardous materials. If you are at any shows on our calendar, feel free to stop by to purchase additional supplies.)

DPEquestrian exclusively uses Haygain hay steamers for all of our competition horses. Feel free to contact me for additional information or to purchase one for your barn! email or 908.399.9112

1. How much does it cost to operate and maintain?

The running costs are minimal.  You will save on the amount of water you use compared to soaking, and with regards to electricity consumption, the steam generators produce 3,000 watts of power.  This equates to 3 kilowatts and the cost per kilowatt, for example in the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) power region, is $0.08 per hour.  Therefore, the HAYGAIN system will consume $0.24 per hour in electricity.  Keep in mind that the first steam cycle lasts 50 minutes and the cycles thereafter are only 30 minutes in length per bale.

2. How long does it take?

Once it is set up, each cycle takes 50 minutes and cycles thereafter are only 30 minutes in length per bale.

3. What is the advantage of steaming an entire bale?

HAYGAIN accommodates a completely strung bale. By being able to place this into the container and steaming it, you are drastically reducing the amount of dust spores released into the atmosphere that are inevitable if you are stuffing a hay net. This has to be the ideal solution both for horses and handlers otherwise it defeats the object.

4. What advantages are there to feeding off the floor as opposed to using hay nets?

Floor-level feeding mimics the natural grazing posture which reduces the intake of respiratory irritants and encourages airway drainage, the first line of defense against deep inhalation of feed particles such as hay dust.

5. Does the outside of the container get hot?

No, it does not.  This is due its highly efficient thermal properties being made of the latest composite plastics.

6. Once steamed, how long before you can feed it and how long does it last?

The hay is ideally fed while it is warm and steaming but, as the spores have been completely killed, it can be fed at a later stage if required (up to 24 hours later).

7. What makes us different?

The way the steam is introduced via our spiked manifold system is unique and the only scientifically proven method that ensures even steaming throughout the whole bale and killing of the harmful spores to your horse.

8. How does steaming hay work?

Steaming at the high temperatures that HAYGAIN reaches ensures all mold and fungal spores are killed, therefore rendered irrespirable and pose no risk to the horse. It is highly beneficial to the health of both your horse's respiratory system and indeed yours.

9. What is the difference between soaking and steaming?

Soaking only dampens down the harmful spores in hay; steaming with a HAYGAIN actually kills the spores. In addition, soaking causes leaching of nutrients while HAYGAIN steamed hay retains its nutrient value.

10. Will my horse like it?

HAYGAIN steamed hay is warm, sweet smelling and very palatable. Field trials have indicated it is effective at encouraging fussy eaters.

11. What about the size and weight of the unit?

The HAYGAIN system is available in 2 sizes.

HG-1000 full bale unit measures 57" L x 33" W x 29" H for the steam chest and 28" L x 28" W x 19" H for the boiler case. Total weight equals 175 pounds.

HG-500 half bale unit measures 25" L x 25" W x 25" H for the steam chest and 20" L x 12" W x 12" H for the steam boiler.  Total weight equals 48 pounds.
